What is ‘right remembering?’
Seeing things as they really are and really will be. But how and why?
It’s a somber day of remembrance for many of us, Patriot Day, and a day of courage. So many things changed on September 11, 2001. We are grateful for everyone who helped and sacrificed on that incredible day. Let us remember and honor their bravery and sacrifice. Thank You.
Is there really power in remembering? A quick online search reveals a plethora of insights on this topic. I firmly believe that there is incredible strength in “right remembering.” It’s a conscious choice that can shape our lives in the Creator-based® way. We know that as creators of our own life experiences, we get to choose what we will think.
Choosing thoughts that make us feel good makes all the difference. I’m not talking about a Pollyanna life. There are always challenges. That’s how we stretch and grow. But why reminisce on hardship when you could bathe your body in feel-good hormones and build physical and emotional resilience through positive remembering?
Here’s a way to practice the power of ‘right remembering:’
Tonight, when you’re safely tucked in bed, recall what went well. What was the best thing that happened to you that day? Does it make you smile, all snuggled down under the covers? Even the smallest moments of wonder can soften the challenges you may have faced. Consider asking your partner the same question. This simple act can bring you both peace and contribute to their happiness, and double yours, knowing you helped make their good night’s sleep better.
Positive remembering, focusing on the pleasurable experiences in the past, can bring us solace and uplift. Life looks brighter after a few minutes of remembering the good times and done with your family, it can bring genuine unity. It’s good for health in all areas of life!
In a compelling three-month-long study, participants were asked to rehearse and remember positive experiences in their minds every day. Those who recalled delightful experiences daily reported fewer doctor visits over the testing period than the control group. There is a connection between positive remembering and our overall well-being. Remembering good times makes you healthier!
Winston Churchill’s wisdom resonates today: “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Those who choose to remember the good and take the time to learn from the past are on a path toward a brighter future. Light and truth follow that kind of thinking. How could you not feel better?
